CrossFit for weight loss, mentality & motherhood.

Not everyone has a before and after picture and not everyone can say that they have changed their life for the better. However, everyone has felt unmotivated and stuck in a rut at one point or another in their life time. Some people may never do anything about it and others like Julie, have the courage to take a massive leap into the unknown with one thing in mind – it won’t be easy but it will be worth it.

Julie Jackson, 36 year old mother of 2.

Before CrossFit I lived a lifestyle where I didn’t care too much for my health. I over indulged on a lot of things, rarely exercised and would jump on the latest fad to try and get my weight down. I was never ready or didn’t really care too much about losing weight and therefore never fully committed. I soon found myself heavily overweight!

August 2015 is where it all began for me. I gave birth to my second baby and decided from then on in, my lifestyle had to change as I now had two little people who would be depending on me for many years to come. Gyms weren’t really my thing. I hated the way I looked in active wear and I hated what I saw in mirrors, so this was a massive step for me but I knew it was something I had to do. Straight away I felt really comfortable at CBX and the group around me was accepting and most of all encouraging. Before I knew it I was attending 4-5 times a week.

I’ll admit, I was put off when Charlotte and Adam decided to change to CBX CrossFit. From what I saw of CrossFit on social media, I immidiately thought there would be no way I could do what all those super strong athletes were doing on Instagram and Facebook. However, I gave it a go and I am so glad that I did. I have never been stronger and fitter in my whole life. CrossFit is a workout like no other. I feel like I am working every single muscle in my body at any one time. The challenge of the cardio based METCON workouts and the feeling of beating your PB in a lift is pretty damn good! Being a stay at home Mum can be demanding and stressful and I really enjoy starting my day off like this. It help’s with my mentality and gives me a clear and happy head for my kids.

CBX CrossFit is a place that has kept me motivated for over two years now and I still want to go every day. It is a place where I have developed some amazing friendships and have a support network around me that I could not have achieve half of what I have without them. To date I am knocking on the door of almost 26kgs lost however, I rarely step on the scales anymore. I am more concerned with how I feel within myself rather than the number on the scale. I am drinking more water and fuelling my body with what it needs to get me through the workouts rather than eating crap and feeling like crap. I have 1 rest day a week and every other day I find myself sweating my butt off with everyone at CBX CrossFit. I am constantly learning new skills, running a little further, lifting weights that are a little heavier, completing more reps and most importantly I feel proud of myself for overcoming all of the things I once thought impossible.

I’m proud because I have worked so hard to get to where I am today. I have achieved a lot in my journey so far and I don’t plan on stopping any time soon. I don’t make excuses for myself. I get there and get the workout done and I never regret doing it. I feel healthy, fit and strong, because I am. I love lifting weights (which I never had an interest in) and most of all I love the role model I am to my two beautiful children. I am so happy I walked through the doors back in 2015. If you are sitting on the fence unsure of CrossFit like I was, take the leap of faith and give it a go.

You won’t regret it!
